Who Are You and What Do You Do for The Offbeat?
I’m Nicole and I’m part of the editorial staff here at The Offbeat. I’m also a member of the production team and help manage the submissions reading process.
What Do You Love Most About The Offbeat?
I love the opportunity to read all of the amazing stories that are submitted to The Offbeat. I feel like I learn so much from our authors about both writing and life. Even though I never really meet these people, I get to know a little part of each and every one of them and that’s pretty neat!
What Are Your Favorite Kinds of Offbeat Stories?
I enjoy any story with an interesting twist, whether it be funny or shocking. When I read stories with twists I always like to go back and read it again to see how it changes my point of view. I also like poems that are fun to read aloud because they have interesting words or a musical quality to them.
What is Your Favorite Thing About Words?
Even though it sounds a bit cheesy, I love how words can create things that nothing else can. They can create worlds, people, and emotions, and by reading them it also creates change in myself. If I’m having a bad day, I can sit down and read a good book to get away for a while and immerse myself in something that will make me feel better when I get up and go on with my day.
What Is One Fact The Offbeaters (Our Readers/Contributors) MUST Learn About You?
I absolutely love anything having to do with the great outdoors, especially hiking and camping. Most importantly, deer are my favorite animal of all time (I find them extremely underrated) and I love going to Hawk Island to watch them. It’s especially fun to see fawns in the spring and watch them grow up!
What is Your Favorite Scientific Element and Why?
My favorite element is copper (Cu, number 29 on the periodic table) because it makes campfires so colorful when you toss some in the fire. It was one of my favorite thing to do as a kid when we went camping!
